Authorities are asking witnesses to come forward after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a cement truck Wednesday near Vancouver International Airport.

The collision was reported around 3:20 p.m. at Russ Baker Way and Miller Road, forcing emergency crews to close the busy Richmond intersection for hours.

Richmond RCMP said the pedestrian, a woman in her 50's whose name has not been released, died at the scene.

right hand turns are allowed in Richmond on red but pedestrians have the crossing signal. The drivers failed to acknowledge that although the right turn is legal, it’s only to be done when there are no pedestrians. on the other hand it's wise to pay attention to your surroundings, even if you have the green light as a pedestrian.
