I think it's possible we are seeing a difference in certain sects within ISIS. Jihadi John is western and knows that showing something like a burning man is far more disgusting than showing before and after of a beheading.

Remember the Nick Berg beheading? Possibly done by Al Zarqawi himself. People would turn away at that exact moment. If you skip the bloody part it doesn't seem as bad. Like "hi. we're tough, but without showing you our bloody hands."
