The damage and explosion both looked like it could have been a blasting cap, I have to agree. That’s why you crimp them behind your back. You can live without a hand, but the rest of it... there’s the results.

not me. that happens to me, id better die. i dont want to be a burden to my family members and later on find out that they are drawing straws as who will take care of me. Nope, I'd rather die than be maimed for the rest of my life.

It should be said you also crimp a blasting cap with your non-dominant hand. You can be an active member of society with one hand, and probably shouldn’t need help wiping your own butt or anything. That said, there are plenty of people who aren’t active members of society with two hands, so just do what you feel is best.  |

The shrapnel was likely his own hand. From the looks of his hand wound, it looks like it was fully wrapped around the explosive, meaning he probably got punctured by bits of his own fingers and hand bones. If you look at blasting cap injuries they often look like small shark bites. Just a chunk of you torn out around about an 8” radius. If you crimp behind your back and a blasting cap unfortunately went off, it wouldn’t be near as bad as the damage done in front of you. You’re much more protected from behind than you are up front. |
