That's not a death rattle; Kung Fu Guy (KFG) got knocked out and was snoring. KFG almost certainly lived and didn't suffer any major, lasting physical injuries. Every video where someone really gets KTFO, it seems like there's people saying the guy must've died or suffered major brain damage. I suppose people are just super melodramatic about street fights, most likely out of ignorance/inexperience.

Because, according to the police, they tracked him down and was able to confirm he was still alive.

Chuck Feldbush, a retired Prince William police detective, was working a uniformed patrol beat in the Dumfries area in 1984 and said he knew Blythe and the victim. Feldbush, who could not remember the victim's name, said the man was a vagrant who lived in the woods near the dojo. The man occasionally was the target of a nuisance call, someone who would sometimes try to take food off people's plates at the Pizza Hut or steal just to get caught so he could spend some time in jail, where he would be guaranteed a roof and meals.

Feldbush saw the man in the days after the incident and noticed him limping.

Guy who beats him has had some training but he's obviously a shopping mall black belt who has never been hit before. A really disgraceful display of undisciplined street fighting and if you did that at my dojo you could expect to be reported to the police and blacklisted from kenpo entirely.

Fighting the guy is one thing but don't lose your mind when he hits back and beat him into a pulp after winning. Anyway guy said he didn't want any actual impact fighting so it wasn't a consentual fight from the start just a bully and a victim albeit a mouthy victim.

"They've weaved quite a tale here." Based on the video it's a miracle that the guy ever walked alive. I think the story of the cop is more unbelievable.
