Re: It's Getting Hot in Here

You can't rip someone's leg off. There is actually a sizeable body of research on this topic. It takes about 10kN to tear off someone's arm, or 20kN for a leg, which is 2250-4500 lbs of force.

When people were drawn and quartered,i.e., 4 horses pull the limbs in 4 different directions, it was not unheard of for the horses to fail to pull the body apart, or only do so after several minutes of struggling.

Re: It's Getting Hot in Here

Reminds me of a multi-vehicle accident a cop buddy responded to. One of the cars were on fire, and the fire department had not yet reached the scene. The trapped victim was begging and pleading for the officer to shoot him, and of course the officer couldn’t. When the flames got too intense for people to offer any more assistance, all they could do was helplessly just listen to him scream and cry. When the fire department extinguished the fire, the guy was dead.
I would have whispered to the guy to "steal" my gun while I tried to extricate him and be done with it!

You didn't get what I meant, I'm saying about an accident whereas the injured person insde the vehicle has their legs trapped. The question is are they almost chopped off? And do I try rescue them at whatever cost? In which case if I try, their leg or legs may no longer be attached. Damage unknown but no time.

You'd be one to stand there with your calculations saying "well their trapped, nothing we can do" then watch them die

Re: It's Getting Hot in Here

There is a similar video, Russian I think, guy trapped in a car, sandwiched between two trucks, and the flames are slowly spreading.... it takes a good ten minutes for the flames to engulf him and the screaming to stop.....
That video haunts me more than any other on here

I get what you're saying. I was just contextualizing your post with a bit of relevant information. I wasn't trying to undermine your point, which is a valid one.

Also - in fact, I am not that guy. I was an officer in the Army and I have actually helped pull a wounded soldier from the smoldering wreckage of a burning vehicle after an ambush in the Spin Ghar near the Khyber Pass, perpetrated by Taliban goat fuckers (literally, they fuck goats). Not that I'm some badass operator, unfortunately. I spent most of my time in a rolly chair on a laptop, and in the actual firefight I only had an M11 - a 9mm Sig - which in the terrain of Afghanistan is about a useful as a Nerf gun.

Re: It's Getting Hot in Here

Kindest thing to do at that point is shoot him... but if it was me, I would have torn my own leg off and been runnin’ on stumps, motherfuckers!!!
