Yanis Yushebayev, a prominent figure long known to Israeli law enforcement and described as the head of a Bukhara organized crime group, was shot dead on Sunday while leaving a convenience store. Yushebayev had been considered a significant target of the Israel Police Coastal District’s Central Unit. He was arrested earlier this year but was subsequently released.

Security-camera footage from the gas station appears to show Yushebayev leaving a convenience store shortly before the attack. A man wearing a cap is seen turning toward him and firing a handgun at close range, striking him from behind.

Over the years, Yushebayev had been the subject of numerous police investigations, although many of the cases did not ultimately result in indictments. Israeli media reports have portrayed him as maintaining the outward lifestyle of a wealthy businessman despite his alleged connections to organized crime.
