Re: An Israeli Citizen Shoots Dead a Muslim Who Attacked Him
A 32-year-old Jewish homicide suspect in the fatal shooting of an Arab man in an apparent road rage incident on Saturday has been ordered by the Nazareth Magistrate's Court to remain in detention for an additional week. Denis Mukin of the Galilee community of Gan Ner in the Mount Gilboa region in the north is suspected of either intentional or reckless killing of D.O, 19, of the nearby village of Sandala. Mukin is also accused of driving on a suspended license, driving under the influence of alcohol and obstruction of the investigation. He had a license to carry a firearm but according to a police source, the license barred him from possession of the weapon while drunk. Members of D.O's family who attended Sunday's hearing on the extension of Mukin's extension were removed from the courtroom after yelling at the suspect. One of the relatives was arrested. Mukin was in possession of a gun when he was arrested on Saturday. Video footage shows him in a confrontation with O. at the side of the road. Mukin is then seen shooting at him, who was running toward his own car at the time. The suspect claims that he had tried to pass O. on the road, who refused to yield to him and that O. had repeatedly accelerated and braked to antagonize him but then allowed him to pass and pulled over to the side of the road. The suspect's defense lawyer, Nadav Greenwald, claimed that his client acted in self-defense, explaining that he feared that O. was carrying a weapon, prompting him to shoot in an attempt to save his own life. Mukin fired a warning shot in the air prior to resorting to deadly force, said Greenwald, who denied any suggestion that the incident was motivated by Jewish-Arab animosities. O's father, Ahmed, accused far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who took office in December, of blame for his son's death for encouraging members of the public to carry firearms. "When Ben-Gvir tells people to take to the streets with weapons, why is he saying that? To kill animals? To kill Arabs!" the father alleged. "We have good relations here in the Gilboa [region], but following Ben-Gvir's arrival, he ruined the country. What Ben-Gvir has done in four months, the Arabs hadn't done in 40 years." In March, amid an upsurge in the number of homicides committed by Israeli Arabs against other members of the Arab community, Ben-Gvir's office said that “crime and violence in the Arab community top the minister’s priorities and he invests a great deal of time on the issue." The elder said that the video shows his son speaking to Mukin prior to the shooting, He alleged that Mukin killed his son after perceiving that he was Arab. "This wasn't an argument on a highway," he claimed. "When he knew that [D.O.] was Arab, he wanted to kill him. Now go convince our young people that Jews don't want to hurt us." Greenwald called the killing regrettable and expressed sympathies to O's family and said that Mukin has been in a terrible emotional state since. "Any attempt to cast this case as a nationalistic [Jewish-Arab] one is baseless." D.O's uncle Hassan Sha'alan alleged that Mukin's life had not been in danger when he used his gun. His nephew was not in possession of a knife or other weapon, he said. Mukin, he added, does not represent Ner Gan as a whole. "I have Jewish friends all over the country and all of them have called to support me and told me that this was a coldblooded murder." On Saturday, roughly 200 residents of Sandala approached the entrance to Gan Ner and some of them threw stones from the entrance. Police were called to the scene and a female officer was lightly injured. |

Re: An Israeli Citizen Shoots Dead a Muslim Who Attacked Him
I understand the point you're trying to make but at least get the facts straight. "Arab" is not a race. It is an ethno-linguistic group. In laymen's terms, it is a culture; NOT a race. "Arab" literally means 'desert dweller'. Being 'muslim' is also NOT a race. It is a religion. If you suddenly convert to Islam today, does that change your race? So, using the word 'racism' to define your point makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. |
