Two suspected thugs were Thursday morning killed by police along Kimathi Street in Nairobi and a gun found on them.

The two were gunned down by a team of plain clothes officers from Special Crimes Prevention Unit who said they had been trailing the gang.

According to police, the two were part of a seven-man gang that planned to raid a shop near Jamia Mall when the shooting happened at about 8am.

The other five escaped as the team of officers who had been trailing them from undisclosed place blocked the road.

Witnesses said they heard police shout at one of the deceased men to surrender and a commotion ensued before gunshots rent the air.

One of the deceased men had been on the corridor near a commercial bank and was confronted before he was shot at close range in the head and fell on the pavement, said a witness.

"I can’t really tell if they were thugs as they claim but there was a confrontation before gunshots rent the air. We ran away," said a witness.

Police said they recovered a Glock pistol that had four bullets from the scene of the shooting. "They had been on trail for long and our informers had said they planned to attack a shop in this area before our officers caught up with them," said Police.

But a witness said he did not see the gun on the suspect. A glass door of an ATM at a nearby bank was shattered by a bullet fired by the officers.

The shocking part of the video is one robber is shot and injured lying on the tarmac and a police simply walks up to him and shoots him dead.
