At least he did it without leaving his destroyed body under the train. He stood on the far rail and got smacked by the left side of the engine right into oblivion.

I find this entire sequence of events to be rather curious. His actions are very deliberate, yet his underlying rationale remains a mystery.

Why stand between the tracks acting like a crossing gate in clear view of an approaching train more than 100 yards away before stepping up onto the rail at the end?

By doing so, he made a sure thing a little less certain by offsetting the impact and giving the engineers an opportunity to brake. While unlikely, this increased his chances of surviving the impact and facing a lifetime of suffering.

If he wanted to avoid making a mess, why not step up onto the rail from the side—just like any other normal person who steps in front of a train to contribute content to this site?

Finally, what's the story behind the look he gives the group with the person taking the video? He had to know they were there the entire time (The train would have been too loud for him to hear them). I suspect they were more than just casual observers.

Of course, the only one thing that we know for sure went through his head at the end was the train.
