A 31-year-old man in Agra was booked for killing his wife by slitting her throat and wrist with a knife.

The police said that preliminary investigation suggested that after murdering Shivani, 26, the husband, Shakti Singh, allegedly kept the body in his house for three days.

Neighbours had last seen Shivani alive on Saturday 29th, but they had seen Shakti leave the house, though only at nights.

On Tuesday 1st, Shakti phoned Shivani's sister, Gita, confessed that he had killed his wife, and pleaded with Gita to perform Shivani's last rites. He then locked the house with Shivani's body inside, and absconded. He has not yet been apprehended.

When Gita arrived at the house, she detected a foul smell. She called the police, who broke down the door and found Shivani's body.

According to neighbours, Shakti was regularly drunk and abused Shivani. The neighbours also reported regular loud arguments coming from their property.
