7th story here with no other exits than an elevator and stairs (not the fire escape ones, just the normal stairs you take if the elevator is broken) Everyday could be my last. |

I admit that is a scary situation. But you don't necessarily need a ladder to the ground. An escape later that will let you climb down 1 or 2 stories is enough. I have seen fires on here where if they had had a folding rope escape ladder that was just 10 feet long, they could have gotten down to the neighbors balcony below, and dropped on it, and then gotten out safely. They make very controllable escape ropes that you control your descent with, using a clutch assembly, and you put your feet in stirrups and ride down while controlling how fast you go. A scary ride beats a fiery death.
