Re: How NOT to Save A Drowned Boy (Child Warning)
You'd think that some aid organization like Red Cross would have CPR instructions in places where it could help, like towns on rivers or lakes... or even just in general... Even if it's only the police and military personnel... they would at least have the chance to save someone like this poor little boy. Just a few mouth to mouth breaths may have made the difference for him. Of course we don't know how long he was under water before he was pulled up... |

This could be in my cyber-stomping ground Cambodia. I've seen this a couple of times before, but have not posted. It's seen by more enlightened Cambodians, as evidence of the 'backwardness' of traditional Cambodian medicine and techniques. They also bury burns victims in sand, which can hardly be therapeutic. Of course, I could be wrong. |

Re: How NOT to Save A Drowned Boy (Child Warning)
Rescue breaths are not common practice now, just chest compressions..the idea for most bystanders it to do the compressions to keep circulating the body's oxygen until ambulance services arrive. I guess they weren't accessible in this situation. Poor little guy. |

We need education initiatives for these places. Jesus christ... I am sure if they had cleared his airways and expelled the water this child would have lived. They didn't even check his mouth for vomit or debris. Ugh... Poor mama.

So why wouldn't holding him upside down not get the water out of his lungs? Is there some check valve that stops it?
