The one above is one of the 'fakes'. Apparently, Ouchi's condition meant that amputation wasn't possible as he simply wouldn't heal for the same reason as his skin wouldn't regenerate, so this can't be him.

However, this is a fairly likely photo of his colleague, Shinohara, who was also affected by radiation. His levels were much lower and for a time his prognosis seemed better, but he ended up dying anyway.

I have studied this case immensely for quite a while now. While it is pretty much known that the man in the photo is not Ouchi, (due to the fact that we know what type of bed and what type of containment Ouchi was in, which had plastic all around his bed, and he had no amputations) I believe the photo you posted is actually of one of the chernobyl victims. If you notice how his hands and limbs are suspended, by the black rings with rods inserted into each of his fingers, it is the same way that one of the known chernobyl victims limbs were suspended in a known photo taken by a Soviet photographer at hospital number 6 in Moscow. I have never seen anyone have limbs suspended like this except for in the Soviet Union around this time. Also, the decor of the room looks to have a mid 80s Soviet feel to it. Here is a picture comparing the suspended limbs of both victims.

There is a very good book on this, called "83 Days" which describes in great detail what happened, how it affected him, and what the doctors did to try to manage the side-effects. But it is a depressing read. I would have asked for morphine to end my life. This was 83 days of pure torture for him.
(The most interesting thing they said was that his heart showed NO signs of radiation damage. The only part of his body to not show an effect.)
