Re: Horrible Death by Radiation Poisoning
I have been a Radiologic Technologist for the last 22 years. Acute radiation syndrome has always been a fascinating topic, only because of the fact there have been very few people to survive a lethal exposure long enough to study the long term effects before death. With radiation exposure, there are two classifications called stochastic and non-stochastic effects. The difference between the two is the human body, once exposed to radiation, will respond adversely to a known level of radiation exposure (i.e. erythema or skin reddening, hair loss, nausea, chromosomal aberrations, death, etc.) A known amount of exposure will elicit a known response from the body. On the flip-side, non-stochastic radiation has no predictive model and humans usually die from the amount of exposure quickly. This is why it's fascinating to me even with today's modern medicine and technology, nothing can be done for the patient to reverse the effects. This poor bastard melted from inside and I can't think of a more painful to die. His timecard had been punched and all anyone could do is to pop some popcorn and enjoy the show. Clarence Dally was Willhelm Roentgen's assistant and was the first person studied for radiation exposure. He lost four fingers and most of skin on his hands before his death. These are his hands...

Re: Horrible Death by Radiation Poisoning
I can't even begin to imagine the kind of agony that poor bastard is in. At that point I'd hope someone would administer a lethal amount of morphine and end my suffering.

Re: Horrible Death by Radiation Poisoning
Apparently this case is one of those with a lot of confusion over pictures and most of what people think are pictures from this accident in fact aren't. ![]() The one above is one of the 'fakes'. Apparently, Ouchi's condition meant that amputation wasn't possible as he simply wouldn't heal for the same reason as his skin wouldn't regenerate, so this can't be him. However, this is a fairly likely photo of his colleague, Shinohara, who was also affected by radiation. His levels were much lower and for a time his prognosis seemed better, but he ended up dying anyway. |
