In La Ceiba, a 22-year-old university student, Carlos D.A.R., was shot dead whilst on his way to university. He was reportedly on his way to the university when he was approached by two men on a motorcycle, one of whom got off the vehicle and shot him. Carlos was robbed immediately afterwards, and he died hours later in hospital. A third motorcyclist, believed to have been associated with the crime, watched the scene unfold.

Two men believed to have been involved in the murder were arrested. A third suspect - José G.C.A., believed to have been the one to shot Carlos - was handed in to police by their parents. José admitted to robberies and assaults in the region, but denied having been involved in Carlos' murder.

According to the United Nations, Honduras' average intentional homicide rate in 2022 of 35.072 per 100,000 inhabitants was above that of such countries as Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia, and Mexico. And it isn't getting much better.

In Santa Cruz de Yojoa, 45-year-old Mexcain-style restaurant owner Douglas J.V.G. was murdered by a hitman who posed as a customer.

The hitman can be seen talking to a waitress, apparently making an order. Once the waitress leaves, the hitman took out his weapon and fired multiple times at Douglas.

Douglas had reportedly spent time as a Mexican chef in several cities across the USA, such as New York City, but had returned to Honduras in 2020 to open his own restaurant.

They'll probably get released by their own government and find a pathway to citizenship here in the US where they will be given more help and assistance than an American who needs it

I used to think that these murders were warranted in some way. Like being involved in drugs, gangs and other sorts of crime. But anymore, I'm starting to feel like it's merely jealousy of people who have things. Most of these murders are students, business owners, people who have nice things or people who have no criminal background and seem like normal people. I don't think that common denominator is merely coincidental.

That's a good point, especially in the first case with the student. With this second one, it could also be that the restaurant owner didn't pay an extortion fee.

It's more spiteful to destroy something innocent than something guilty.

Really pathetic. In a country where most people are struggling to one degree or another just to survive, you still find parasites ready to take what little you have and take your life too, just for kicks. These punks probably had more money than the college kid. They had wheels. He was walking.
