One person was fatally shot by police Friday in northwest Oklahoma City, police said. The incident was reported Friday afternoon near Hefner Road and Pennsylvania Avenue.

Officers were called to the area to investigate a disturbance.

A homeless man, who sold flowers on the street, was in the parking lot and reportedly bothering customers, police said.

Police said the man had a knife and officers tried to de-escalate the situation with a Taser and OC spray, or more commonly known as pepper spray.

Shots were fired during a confrontation with the man, police said. Three officers were involved in the altercation.

The family identified the man as 60-year-old B. E. and said he was diagnosed with a mental illness.

E's niece said she found out about her uncle's death when she saw a video of the altercation online.

She said that he was bi-polar and schizophrenic losing track of reality often. Some reports said that he was indigent but others close to the family say that he lived with an aunt.

Black Lives Matter OKC protesters congregated at the scene a short time later.

While officers tried to move expand the crime scene, some officers used OC spray on the protesters to move them backward.

Some, including family members who showed up early, said that the body of the victim laid exposed for nearly two hours before police covered it.

Leaving the body uncovered for hours is reminiscent of when Ferguson, Missouri police had left the body of Michael Brown, Jr. in the street uncovered for four hours after a city officer shot him to death in an altercation August 9, 2014.

Residents believed police did not cover the body as a way of threatening the population by example. The Ferguson police chief later apologized to the family.

Oklahoma City police Capt. Dan Stewart said the interaction with the victim happened very quickly and officers were left without a choice but to fire at him. He asked the public to give the investigation time.

Coming from a former mental weakling as a teenager, America's healthcare system is a joke, and I lean more capitalist in most areas. It is fucked though. Pay $126 a month for insurance then you lose a leg or need major surgery, you're still then left with a co-pay. It's a bunch of bullshit money laundering scam.
