I know this story. It was a calm, starlit night. Two bums were sitting in their finest rags over a cardboard box in a dim streetlight, while violin music played from a nearby restaurant. They sipped their cheap wine from plastic cups and set the table for dinner.
"Excellent choice William, this place is perfect", said Edmund, the elder of the two homeless. "Well thank you Edward, and how nice of you to remember the wine", said William, who looked 10 years older than he actually was.
William had carefully selected the best parts of their former companion Stephen and prepared the meal. Rest of the carcass was conveniently chopped to small pieces and stored to little boxes nearby. As all was ready, they began the feast.
"Mmm, tender and soft. This steak is exquisite", said Edmund. "I must say I agree. It's a good thing Stephen to care of his health", William replied. Both men laughed a little.
They ate a little while and the violin played a familiar tune. "Edmund, are those people pointing at us?", William asked curiously. "I am not sure. Maybe we should wave back. Hello there!" Both men smiled and waved. People started calling nerveous phonecalls, but the two men continued their tranquil chatter. "More wine?", asked Edmund. "Please", said William.
The sound of police sirens broke the calm, peaceful night. Multiple policemen ascended from their vehicles with guns in their hands.
"Oh my, I didn't know we were going to have guests", William said and stood up, as the policemen shouted orders and pointed their guns. "Pardon my manners, officers. I will set couple more chairs and plates for you. Would you like some red wine?", William asked and reached for the bottle. The police reacted immediately.
Several gunshots echoed in the streets and red wine mixed with blood. William and Edmund will forever be remember as the "Two crazy hobos who ate their friend."
