Hit and Run in China Leaves 2 Dead, 9 Injured

Yesterday a road traffic accident occurred in Xishan District, China where Li (male, 49) was driving a blue SUV and hit normally moving electric bikes and pedestrians. He then fled the scene by car and collided with other vehicles and pedestrians on the way.

The accident caused 2 deaths, 4 minor injuries, and 5 slight injuries. The injured have been sent to the hospital for treatment and are not in life-threatening condition.

Police have arrested Li, and have ruled out suspicion of drunk or drugged driving. Preliminary investigation shows it was a hit-and-run traffic accident, and the case is under further investigation.

At 13:16 on July 20, 2025, a traffic accident occurred on Jinbi Road in Xishan District of our city. Upon receiving the report, the public security authorities promptly arrived at the scene and coordinated with emergency services, including 120 ambulance responders, to carry out rescue efforts.

According to the investigation, Mr Li (male, 49 years old, resident of Xishan District, Kunming) was driving a blue compact SUV on Jinbi Road when he struck an electric bicycle and pedestrians who were traveling normally. He then fled the scene in his vehicle, during which he collided with additional vehicles and pedestrians.

The accident resulted in 2 deaths, 4 people with minor injuries, and 5 with slight injuries. All injured individuals have been taken to the hospital for treatment and are not in life-threatening condition.

At present, the public security authorities have apprehended Li. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs has been ruled out. Preliminary findings indicate that this was a hit-and-run traffic accident. The case is currently under further investigation.
