Re: Hit in the Head by Helicopter

must be hella sag in those blades. it sounded like the pilot was maintaining a strong rpm, so i'd have thought the blades were sticking more or less straight out from the hub, from centrifugal force/lift. i probably would have walked right into it myself.

lucky for me i'm not rich.

Re: Hit in the Head by Helicopter

Yes pretty simple. Them metal blades are heavy, and gravity affects everything, especially heavy things. Put 2 and 2 together now
Wow, that pic is very showing. Had no idea they could hang that low at that rpm. Thanks for explaining!

Re: Hit in the Head by Helicopter

Reminds me of Dawn of the dead 1978 when the zombie tries attacking roger at the fuel depo
Man, that's the first thing that popped into my mind as well.

As far as approaching a helicopter, multiple sources seem to say that approaching it from the front like this guy did is fine, so long as the pilot is aware.

Basic Helicopter Safety Tips

Only approach the helicopter after the pilot has signaled that it is safe to do so. Always approach the helicopter from the front so the pilot can see you. The safest places from which to approach a helicopter are the front left and front right sides. It is acceptable to walk straight up toward a helicopter from the front, but the pilot will be able to see you better if you approach at an angle. If you approach from the rear of the aircraft, the pilot won’t be able to see you.

Re: Hit in the Head by Helicopter

He was probably hit with a flybar. Rotors could be the culprit if they were decelerating and lowering, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
