like...i know, monday morning quarterback and all that, but...wouldn't a normal reaction be to try and pivot on your ass to get your legs downhill, so you could dig your heels in...? instead of proceeding the whole way down like flying Superman...?

I think he was trying to do that but his crampons dug in and flipped him head first again. He just had too much momentum for feet-first to work. In hindsight, he probably should have flipped on his back, and arched his body to try to gouge the crampons into the ice behind him.
