Hiker Untied His Safety Rope to Take Photos, Ends Up Plummeting to His Death
Mount Nama, Sichuan, China A male hiker, Mr Hong, was walking up Mount Nama with a team when, near a crevasse, he undid his safety rope to take photos of his companions. When he stood up, his crampons tripped him, causing him to slip and fall. Despite several attempts to get back up, he slid more than 200 metres before falling to an elevation of about 5,300 metres. According to a staff member of the local education and sports bureau, Mr Hong and his companions had went up the mountain without permission. Public information shows that Mount Nama has an elevation of 5,588 metres and is one of the satellite peaks of Mount Gongga. The climb is moderately difficult, and it is considered one of the most popular 5,000-metre-level technical snow peaks. |

It’s got to really suck when you know you’re going to die and nothing can be done to change that outcome. |
