A BB gun is about ~70 dB whereas a real gun could go from 120dB for .22 cal. to 165 dB for a 357 Magnum and more for higher power pistol rounds.

To put it in context:

Cops are under zero obligation to wait and see if it’s just a BB, pellet, flare gun, etc.
