Cardiac tissue is unique in the body. It's a type of muscle tissue that is so specifically structured around rhythmic contraction that it continues for a while even when there is no body around it. A beating heart is a condition for life, so there is no situation where your heart should not be beating. Thus, a beating heart is a default state.

The heart contains special cells called "pacemaker cells" that coordinate and set the rhythm, making the heart tissue contract in the correct sequence to produce useful blood circulation. But the brain's role is mainly just to set the speed of the heartbeat.

Of course its a Texas truck driver. Everytime I see a Texas plate in Ontario I take extra caution on the road and also try to avoid eye contact as to not aggravate the driver which could potentially get me or my family shot.
