Was that a suicide? One doesn’t necessarily need to hear a train coming, they only need to see it. It seems like she saw the train coming, and she quickly positioned herself, and waited a few seconds to get ran over.

I entertained that notion also, but the way she cringed at the last second seems to suggest that she wasn't expecting what happened. Or maybe it was purely an instinctive reaction? Who knows.
