The blood drops almost straight down at first. Then I think a bigger artery/vein ruptures giving the stream of blood some carry distance.
The stream of blood quickly loses pressure and distance and each ejection gets shorter. Of course that indicates the pump, his heart, is stopping.

It looked like the shooter could have put the muzzle right against his head, or could have at least gotten quite a bit closer.
Taking the second shot while retreating is also a good way to miss the second shot.
