Re: Hanging Body Discovered By Gunman
Thank you so much for your assistance. "Uncle" "Uncle"? That's so bizarre. What is the context? I can't fathom it. And I wonder what is meant by 'the BN'. That abbreviation doesnt correlate to anything about the area that I have researched. Ah well, an odd mystery. But thank you so much for translating for us. |

Re: Hanging Body Discovered By Gunman
"Tio", in this case, doesn't mean "Uncle", but it's used like for "buddy" or "mate" in informal meaning of this word

Re: Hanging Body Discovered By Gunman
Tío is only used in Spain as "buddy", "mate", "dude" or "pal" would be used in English. The Spanish spoken by the guy who recorded the video sounds Colombian to me (I may be wrong though) but they don't use tío to refer to a pal. |

Re: Hanging Body Discovered By Gunman
The guy talking is not a Spanish guy but probably a Colombian, they do not use tío to refer to a friend.

Re: Hanging Body Discovered By Gunman
I’m from Spain. At first I thought this was portuguese because the “tio” (which we use as “uncle” or “dude”) sounds like ‘qui o’ or something along those lines which may be ‘what’s this’ or ‘ happened’. Anyway the accent sounds Narcos so looks like Colombia yes. Ay miren se ahorcó. (Oh look she hanged herself) Muchacha hembra se colgó aquí en el BN. (Female girl hanged herself here at the BN) Bonus grammar fact: (I searched this before posting but still not sure it sounds right haha) Hanged vs. hung Hung is the past tense and past participle of hang in most of that verb’s senses. For instance, yesterday you might have hung a picture on the wall, hung a right turn, and hung your head in sorrow. The exception comes where hang means to put to death by hanging. The past tense and past participle of hang in this sense, and only in this sense, is hanged. |
