Sadistic psychopaths can come up with any "socially acceptable" excuse to cover up the REAL motivation behind their crimes - they simply enjoy the pain & suffering of others.

It's the same with American prisoners. It's got nothing to do with paedophiles or sex crimes, just a way to justify/an excuse for their own psychopathic behaviour & feeling superior over somebody/anybody. You could have picked ANY reason & they would have been happy to do this all the same...
