If you refuse to go to these places then read actual history books regarding these places. Learn about Shaka and his rise to power becoming the greatest General to ever walk on the red clay there. But I’m reading it remember he was not a great general because of tactics alone it was because he would simply cut your head off and all your relatives heads off if he thought you might be weak. I’m so fed up with those with your mindset being so ignorant about the way the world actually is.....

Thank you. I'm glad someone has said this. There are no longer any safe places in the world anymore. I was very lucky. I grew up in the 60s & 70s in a town where we were never exposed to this kind of violence. As a 5 year old, I could go outside and play without even giving a thought that someone might harm me or kidnap me. Now days, kids do not know a world where there is no violence. These days violence is all these kids know.

That's a bit harsh. Our forefathers died and people like you continue to die so that the West can live in relative comfort and ignorant bliss.

If you want to blame someone, don't blame the idealists who simply want to keep alive the dream of peace and equality, blame the public education system and academia for insulating Americans and the West from knowing anything about the rest of the world by being so fucking America/Euro-centric that most people can't even name ten countries off the top of their heads, let alone what the politics or daily lives of their citizenry look like.

Education has failed, the media has failed, and these idealists for whom those in the know (like you) have so much disdain are not purposely ignorant, they simply don't know what they don't know and are living in the dark as they have been conditioned.

I appreciate the light you've shed on Cameroon's plight, for Minka and others here, myself included, who weren't aware of it, but maybe don't take it out on people who genuinely care about others - to someone who doesn't have all the facts, hearing another country referenced to as a "cesspool" seems like an arbitrary racist slur. I wouldn't disdain you for not knowing as much about Burma as I do since I happen to interact with Burmese refugees on a regular basis.

I get where you're coming from, but those of us in the dark aren't the problem - and places like DR are part of the solution. I'm thankful for this video for even putting Cameroon on my mental radar, and I'm grateful to you for the additional information. I just think you're being a little hard on another member who has good intentions.

Analsmith, I do know some of the ins and outs you refer to in Burma / Myanmar. I have bled on soil there. Those I did try to defend there were as good and kind as those I’ve fought for in other parts of the world. I do completely understand what you’re saying I do respect that your points are on point. The issue and disgust I have is in that at some point you must choose to be ignorant or educated. I agree that for most westerners ignorance is a preferred way of living. We live in this society that just decides to rewrite history it doesn’t agree with ignore actual issues and as long as they have phone service and FB and the fat ass Kardashian’s are still gaining weight by the kilos life is just swell.

It’s a choice. Books are actually still in print and the older ones can be purchased for nothing so there is no reason to not expand your mind.

Yes, Chin and Kachin. There are over 10,000 of them in a 20 mile radius of southern Indianapolis. The horror stories...my God.
