Re: ~Guy Dies After Getting Crushed In Work Accident~
That was a 40mm thick slab of marble. It weighs about 80kg per square metre. If it is granite it will weigh about 110kg per square metre. The yellow clamp (Abaco or Aardvark brand in my country) has a fat side and a skinny side. It holds with gravity and when the pressure is off you lower it and a spring loaded clip locks it open so you can lift it off the stone. These guys did two things wrong. The fat side of the clamp should be facing the guy who died but it wasn't. Meaning he couldn't push the top of the slab back far enough to lean on the other slabs of stone. Secondly the fork operator lowered the clamp too soon locking it open, so even if he went to lift it again to stop the slab from falling he couldn't. The rest is up to gravity. It's not even the right sort of clamp to use on marble as it's clamping 'foot print' is small and has a tendency to take bites out of more fragile marbles. |
