A security camera recorded the moment when a resident of Nova Iguaçu, Baixada Fluminense, tried to help a man escape the flood caused by the rain that fell in the city on Saturday night.

At one point, he is unable to hold on, falls to the ground and is swept away by the force of the waters. V.R.A, aged 53, drowned.

The images show him holding the hand of a man wearing a green coat. Dressed in black and with a coat on his back, he has difficulty balancing himself in the flood. He falls to the ground and is carried away by the current.

The other man tries to go after him, but can't catch him.

10 other people died in Grande Rio because of the weekend's rain. The North Zone of the capital and the cities of Baixada Fluminense are among the most affected areas.
