Re: Guatemalan Policeman Was Killed After Being Shot In the Head
A person shot from a distance with a small caliber may not have enough energy to cause the skull to damage the brain beyond the surface near the entrance (through internal bevelling), and may leave a relatively clean path through with minimal shock to the surrounding tissues through the standard temporary cavity one might expect. It would leave a thin permanent cavity, and contrary to popular belief, would not likely 'bounce around' inside the skull. The brain, while inelastic and considered fairly solid, is capable of still functioning with serious damage or missing portions. See: Phineas gage, hemishperectomy, lobotomy, Brain Cancer Survivors This officer likely died of blood loss, as the brain is exceptionally vasularized on the exterior, and even the small amount of skull bevelling would likely sever several large or medium arteries/veins in the area. |
