I think this is like the "single bullet" theory in the Kennedy assassination. One shot struck both victims. Their reactions to getting shot are simultaneous.

The girl is alright I think. Playing back the video it looks like some shrapnel hit her in the calf which caused her to drop instantly.

~ However, it looked like that was a regular spot for him to be found.
