You mean the knife that doesn't even exist because no knife was found?

Amirite?
How would you have handled it? "Hey, my good sir, can you please stop moving around, while I search your car? You look like you are about to attack me, just sit still please."

Re: Graphic Footage: Cops Kill Man on the Spot. Justified?

50/50

I did hear the plod say "drop the knife" but it looked to me like the victim was going back inside his car maybe? Obviously he could of even been going for a gun so, yeah fair enough.

He didn't need to keep shooting him whilst he was down though if he only had a knife... and to be fair even if a police officer pulled a gun on me because i was running away, i would fucking shit my pants at the sight of the end of the barrel pointing at me so my instinct might to be run too... so i call 50/50

Re: Graphic Footage: Cops Kill Man on the Spot. Justified?

To all the heartless bastards in here still shouting out cries of "Do your research!", or "He's a cop, he can do dat sorta thing, ey!"; you're fools. Facts are facts. A simple web-search will show you hundreds upon hundreds of incidents every fucking month that detail situations where police pulled out their glock and emptied the clip into someone that they deemed "threatening". Perhaps I'm beating a dead horse here, but a cop is just a civillian with some basic handgun training and a not-so-well read portfolio of local codes and statutes. I personally don't care what the officer's station tells him he can and can't do: You simply cannot hand a civillian a gun with minimal training and no drilling, then expect them to use it responsibly. The MILITARY, a service of all of our countries that gets worse rap than local police officers, are trained properly and drilled in target confirmation. Hell, deemed military "threats" have more rules protecting them than our own soldiers! Rules of engagement, geneva conventions, everything. Seems all ass-fuckin'-backwards, doesn't it?

Re: Graphic Footage: Cops Kill Man on the Spot. Justified?

I worked in corrections. Had a bit of training, Indiana Law Enforcement Agency Jailer School. We went over a situation like this. Now, we didn't carry anything lethal in the facility, so we couldn't go to the top tier of what I'm about to get to.

I don't know this man's situation, but this is what I know. They (police and correctional officers) operate under the Force Continuum:
http://www.nij.gov/topics/law-enforc.../continuum.htm

We can go UP one level from what is there.

In this instance, deadly weapon from criminal, lethal force authorized. They bring a knife, we can bring a gun. Officer saftey is paramount.

They use fists, officer can use less than lethal, they use blunt or sharp objects, they're authorized for deadly force. In the corrections setting that was substituted for pepper spray or tazer.

Most of the time if we responded to a fight it was in great numbers. (all of the shift minus the control officer operating the doors in a secured room.) This was ONE person responding to someone potentially reaching for a firearm.

The subject didn't comply with verbal commands stated more than one time, this brought it to less than lethal.

There was a knife involved, step up one from there, lethal use authorized. He grabbed for something after not complying with verbal warnings, and a knife was already present.

This officer had a fucking nanosecond to determine that he was reaching for something and had an instant reaction.

Yes, this was justified.

I usually don't comment and creep around on here not posting, but this was burning at me and I had to help to explain. I apologize if any of that wasn't quite right, it's been a while since I worked corrections.

Re: Graphic Footage: Cops Kill Man on the Spot. Justified?

Thread is long and most of it's been covered. They told him to drop the knife and be still and even if his foot was caught in the seat belt he should of just stayed still. I do think it was overkill though with the bullets, they could of shot him in the legs and arms, i think that would stop most people.

It seems capping fools ain't no crime as long as you've got a badge & a uniform.

It's about time these trigger happy cops had HD dash/helmet cams.

Re: Graphic Footage: Cops Kill Man on the Spot. Justified?

The police officer did not give the guy to drop the knife if he even had one. There was plenty of distance between the officer and the guy. Plus the positioning of the cars gave the officer cover. There is no way that the officer could have known it was a throwing knife in such a short period of time. It was obvious that the officer already knew the guy. Plus shooting the guy as many times as he did...talk about over kill. You only do a head shot if the guy does not go down after already being shot. Plus you don't continue to shoot someone while they are down unless you see them go for a weapon. The officer was frantically trying to find the knife prior to medics showing up. Had the guy charged the officer and had a knife in his hand then the shooting would have been justified...that was not the case in this matter. The officer over reacted and needs to faces charges for it.
