This is very unfortunate, but this is the exact reason why you are to freeze when the cops tell you to freeze! They ARE NOT kidding around! The cop told him to get his hands up, BEFORE he even exited the car. The policeman told him (even called him by name!) NOT to move. After Ernie failed to abbey that command, the PO told him to drop the knife. Ernie failed to do that, as well. The thing is, if the perp was already armed, AND not willing to obey the officer, thus far, what was to stop said perp from pulling out a deadlier weapon and opening fire on the the authorities. Look, this all could've been avoided if Ernie had only listened! He'd be alive!
