His leg appeared to be glowing like a light bulb, at first I thought the bone was acting as a filament, but that characteristic glow makes me think of the sodium (in the form of salt) in his flesh and other tissues being responsible. It's glowing like a pickle if you pump a household supply current through it, and I am impressed with the level of illumination that the human leg can produce. |

Depends on the amperage, voltage and where it goes. More people die from a typical 120v shock than anything else, its what's in most North American households for common uses and usually what people wind up eating. The danger is if it crosses your heart, fucks with its electrical pattern and stops it. Other than that it stings a bit, but no long term damage burns etc etc. This poor fucker was cooked. Typical line voltage in North America is 4160, god knows how many amps....... I can't even imagine what that would be like. |

Most people don't know how to safely deal with situations like that. They would need a wood stick like a broom handle to move the power lines away from the body, but I'm doubtful that the guy's alive at this point anyway.

No, it is not normal for electricity to kill instantly, no more than it is normal for ionizing radiation to be instantly lethal. I've zapped myself with a car battery (by accident) a handful of times. Not fun, and yes potentially very dangerous. But there are many factors that go into how much harm an electric shock does to you. Some people die from house current. Some people get hit by lightning and survive (albeit with significant physical problems). |
