Re: Gordon Smiley: Original ABC Broadcast 5/15/82 (HQ Video and Pictures)
Gordon Smiley Interview Before 1982 Indy 500 Before the 1982 Indy 500, Gordon Smiley was a guest on the WIBC radio show, The Talk From Gasoline Alley. He gives an ominous interview about needing to be aggressive during qualifying and running the car past its limits. |

Re: Gordon Smiley: Original ABC Broadcast 5/15/82 (HQ Video and Pictures)
A small correction to the OP that I'm surprised nobody pointed out, the "legendary driver" commentator is Jackie Stewart, not Jackie Smith. Back in that era, one of the conventional wisdoms/theories was that road racers (like Gordon) were doomed because they would make that mistake. The old USAC guys would constantly harp on it and they used to have one of the old guys (maybe Jim Hurtibise IIRC but I could be wrong) give a talk about it during rookie orientation. Also LMAO at the guy on page 1 who made a bunch of remarks about nobody knowing anything but said Gordon had won in F1. Wtf. |
