Re: Golden Gate Suicides

Is it just me but it doesn't look that high. surely if you hit the water at the right angle you could survive the fall. I'm off to go investigate how many jumpers actually survive.. Ps I was hoping for a longer video but still interesting.

so a quick search and 2% of people actually survive the fall its 76 meters, whats that? about 278 feet-ish its high so I would huess its best to land flat rather than feet first . but it is survivable. Amazing.

I wonder how many die in horrible agony by landing feet first, but legs slightly apart, so a jet of water bursts through their rectum and mangles their insides.

Yes, it happens.

Re: Golden Gate Suicides

This is most likely from the documentary “The Bridge.” Pretty good. Camera crew shot the GG bridge for a period of time, and supposedly alerted authorities when they thought they identified a potential jumper, but got footage of people who actually jumped. The doc interviews family members of some of them, exploring the psychology behind suicide, signs, persistence and drive (several had made previous attempts) and the impact it has on everyone. They also interview an actual survivor who said as soon as he jumped, he regretted it. And… that he was saved by dolphins or something. Not fully believable. But still a good documentary.

Re: Golden Gate Suicides

One woman who jumped did it cos she had problems with her teeth, probably couldn't afford a dentist. If you've ever had a really bad toothache you've definitely considered unaliving yourself.

Shark infested waters. If the drop doesn’t kill you they will. Always a good opportunity to become fish food.

Yeah, that's what I've heard: those who lived through something like this have said they never wanted to live SO badly as the moment they pushed off. Have to wonder how many hit, now wishing so mightily to live... but then drown (or regain consciousness mid-drown) / choke on blood / feel their now-ineffective limbs thrashing and grating as they now desperately try to stay afloat.... and that's their last moments. Possibly a lot of them. I don't know, though: why anyone would think that hitting water would be more effective than hitting street or something? Surely there are a LOT of places high enough to jump from to pretty much ensure instant lights-out. Maybe they're not sure after all, or somehow hope there'll be a 'rescue' or something while they're standing at the rail for who knows how long. I know where _I_ would jump from if necessary (a local 8th story parking garage), got it all planned out.

Yep, this is why you're told to cross your legs (especially women) while going down some of the more extreme water slides. Nothing like having an orifice blasted asunder by a sudden 'water knife'...

I'd consider having my mate pull the tooth (or teeth) out with a decent pair of pliers before jumping off a bridge. I mean, they're not any use in your grave are they, if they're causing you problems and you can't afford a dentist, go and see a mechanic.

Then kys if it's still bad. I mean you can only kill yourself once. You should probably exhaust the other options first.
