Down where I live we have black folks who speak Geechee. It is a form of African mixed with Carribbean and Southern plantation english. When you hear it, some of the words are hard to understand but you can still tell if the person is intellegent.
In the US, the federal government has mandated that children of the ages from 6 to 20 be in a school curriculum where they are learning. This is called public schools. I know because I pay taxes to educate these children. As a part of these public schools, a portion of their studies include "American English" as you so eloquently put it. In fact, these classes are taught in every ghetto and urban area in the US. Due to "American English" being our accepted language in this country, it is a federally mandated core curriculum to study. So, if someone chooses a sentence structure such as "Stay woke" it has to be one of several reasons why. 1) They went to school and refuse to speak our accepted language 2) They dropped out of school to sell drug and join gangs etc 3) They dropped out of school for a myriad of other possible reasons.

Apologizing for people who refuse to use accepted and federally mandated language is what's wrong in this country. We don't need to have 37 official languages. One is hard enough to learn.

If the other reasons are correct then they didn't learn federally mandate English and therefore are ignorant.

I'm getting real tired of the "plight of the black man" apologists excuse used for everything. Get off your asses, go to school, stop idolizing Lil Wayne, dont' give your children unhireable names, and do something with you selves. If you are stuck where you're at....move.
