Girl Falls from Balcony on the 19th Floor Onto Car and Died
A Russian teenage girl died around 8 this morning when she fell/jumped from a balcony on the 19th floor. The schoolgirl landed on the trunk of a parked Mazda and broke through the rear window. She died on the spot.  In the morning, she packed up her backpack and planned going to school after she stayed home for a month after being sick. She studied not very well and didn't live with her parents but with another family. Locals told that the entrance to the high-rise balcony is open, and teenagers often hang out there. On the wall there are inscriptions: "Look for me below," "Look for my corpse." |

Reminds me of the classic photo of the girl who jumped off the Empire State building and landed on a car below, on her back. Just looking at her she appeared fine, her head seemingly intact and her features unmarred. Torn up inside though.

Yes, that's the one. It was in one of the big time magazines, Life I think. In those days they weren't censoring such images.

Experts say land on a car if you have to jump from a building, maybe it would help for 3 or 5 floors. But 19 floors I think your a goner unless you hit and slide down a large snow hill. The record for falling without a parachute was a Soviet military pilot many years ago IIRC. He bailed out at 50,000 feet or so and his communist built chute didn't open (after his communist built plane flamed out). He landed on the edge of a snowy ravine and slid to the bottom, like a giant ice slide that minimized the G force...

You'll need to be at least about 150 feet above any hard surface if you want a confirmed kill. Anything lower and you're gambling with statistics.  |
