Re: Gimmie the Bat, Man.
I mean, the video is literally right there. You can clearly see that there's easily 10 feet between the assailant and the officer. Not to mention, he didn't even have it drawn back and ready to strike. He was staggering and the bat was basically dragging the ground. I'm not pro-police or any of that trash. I call things as I see them. But this, to me and in my opinion, was not necessary. |

Re: Gimmie the Bat, Man.
It's a fish eye type lense with absolutely no points of reference. You can't tell shit about distance.

Re: Gimmie the Bat, Man.
The points of reference are the surroundings. Look how much wall there is between the assailant's feet on the floor. Each of those tiles are about a foot long. Look at the right side of the camera. There's a big ass line of shopping carts in the distance between them. Or look at the wall on the left and how much there is between them. Even taking distance out of the equation, what harm is a man that's being tased, staggering, and seemingly unable to even lift the bat if he wanted to? We can agree to disagree as I do not argue as it is a time-wasting endeavor, but I still stand by it being excessive. Which also explains why they were placed on administrative leave as well. There was no outcry, there were no riots, he was placed on leave because it truly was uncalled for. |

Re: Gimmie the Bat, Man.
Dude come on. I've got a degree in mechanical engineering, graduated with honors and do this shit every day. At best you can count shopping carts but you have no idea where each person is relative to the carts. Only that you can see 3, maybe 4 carts stacked within themselves. How about this for a distance measurement, he was too fucking close. I'd be right with you had the officer not attempted to tase first. Wtf else you want him to do?? Start singing and hope the melody calms ole boy??

Re: Gimmie the Bat, Man.
The first shot came at 2:20. Tweeker still had bat and was walking forward, raising bat. Look at the tweeker's stance! That shot was 100% justified. Otherwise we'd have a dome shot and a tweeker with a firearm.

Re: Gimmie the Bat, Man.
ok BOOM!..you got this cop over here....ya got this guy holding a bat over there....and BOOM!..here comes a cop late for the action!...i tell ya, i think they were too quick to shoot and should have given it more time!...its like, in football where the quarterback throws the ball way too soon before the play develops.\...the cop that shot too soon should have made a better decision....like Brett Favre would have!

Re: Gimmie the Bat, Man.
Nah... Anything that can kill a person is as good as a firearm. A brick...a baseball bat, a knife ... anything. A brain doesn't care if its shot or beaten out of the skull. 1 Hit from that bat = near certain death...just like a bullet. In fact...if the officer misses the first shot then the advantage may actually be on the baseball bat/knife-wielding guy. Mythbusters even did an experiment on this if I remember correctly. Plus...as you saw...the guy didn't go town right away. Even after taking multiple shots, the suspect may still deliver 1-2 blows before going down. The problem here, imo is that the cops had pretty shitty skills of de-escalation. Im near certain that a cop with decent psyc-training could have simply talked to the guy and convinced him to put down the bat. |
