He got pounced upon by some guy but can't see what ignited that fuel? maybe a lighter in his left hand went off during the tackle, or the gas can sparked up on a rock, not sure, but here's a slow-mo of the action.

1:08 No. He hadn't actually ignited himself yet. Someone leaps over him, you can see a shoe, you can even see the guys face. Causing him to fall backwards, he looks at the thing that fell, because it was toppled over by that person who jumped over him, right before it ignited him. Someone caused the actual event of starting the fire. It wasn't him.

I'm starting to think it might've been a kerosene lamp that he threw onto the ground breaking it open.
