FULLERTON – A councilman is insisting that evidence – including any video – connected to the death of a transient after scuffling with police be made public.

In a letter titled "An Open Letter to Fullerton Residents" written on city stationary, Councilman Bruce Whitaker urged officials to make public "related evidence, including video and audio recordings" linked to the death of Kelly Thomas, 37.

Can't wait.
Now if it was a cop being beaten to a bloody pulp the vid would be out in a week r so.

Witness Mark Turgeon says he saw the "out of control" beating from about 25 feet away. He said two officers were on top of Thomas, then two others came and shot him with an electronic stun gun. Two more officers showed up and started beating him with a flashlight, Turgeon said.

"He wasn't moving anymore," Turgeon said. "He wasn't resisting. He was face down and they were beating him on the back of the head."

During the scuffle, Kelly Thomas suffered head and neck injuries and was taken to UCI.

Two officers suffered moderate injuries during the fight.

Early reports from OC Register and ABC7 have stated that officers sustained broken bones during the altercation, but Sgt. Goodrich confirmed on July 20th that none of the officer’s bones had been broken in the dispute. They did however receive soft tissue damage.

Two F. cops were placed on administrative leave, still unclear if this is related to the incident.

In response to a public records request, the FPD’s Professional Standards Bureau just told us:

Officer “H” was placed on administrative leave on July 8th, 2011. As of the last pay period ending July 22nd, the total salary for officer “H” is $3015.36

Officer “I” was placed on administrative leave on July 10th, 2011. As of the last pay period ending July 22nd, the total salary for officer “I” is $2871.76.
