Former Colombian Gang Leader and His Bodyguard Shot Dead
In Pereira, Risaralda province, Colombia, 46-year-old ex-gang leader B.A.C. and two of his bodyguards were gunned down while B. was leaving a church service with his wife. B. and one of the bodyguards were killed on the spot, while one of the attackers was also shot dead in the conflagration. Another hitman was injured. According to Colombian police, B. was formerly the leader of the 'La Cordillera' drug trafficking gang, which formed alliances with foreign criminal organizations to export illegal drugs. In 2015, when Colombian police arrested 24 La Cordillera members, B. turned himself in, and reached an agreement with prosecutors that saw him receive a reduced sentence of four years in prison. Afterwards, B. resumed life as a merchant, but was always seen heavily escorted and with armoured trucks. |
