"An off-duty Chicago cop shouted "I'll kill you" before fatally shooting a man who grabbed for her gun during a struggle last month in Washington Heights on the South Side. The private surveillance footage, released by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, initially shows Leevon Smith arguing with a group of people in the 1300 block of West 90th Street just before 1 p.m. on Jan. 18. The off-duty officer eventually leaves an apartment building, tries to defuse the conflict and urges those involved to "calm down." The other people take off, but Smith sticks around and talks to the officer for just over a minute. As she turns to head back into the apartment building, the video appears to show Smith reach for the officer's handgun, setting off a struggle."

The Chicago Police Department released surveillance footage on Thursday of an officer-involved shooting that occurred last month.

The material was released as part of an ongoing investigation into the shooting death of Leevon Smith on Jan. 18.

In the footage, an off-duty officer is seen struggling with a man in the 1300 block of West 90th Street.

“I’ll Kill you,” the officer said, as the two struggled. “You got to kill me then,” Smith told her.

“Watch this,” she said, as she pulled out a gun and fired a shot.

“Oh, sh*t!” Smith yelled. “I’m sorry!”

“I told you I’d kill you. I told your dumb ass I’d kill you,” she said. “I’m sorry!” Smith yelled, as another gunshot rang out.

“You got me! You got me!” Smith told the officer as the two struggled off camera.

“I told your dumb ass I’d kill you,” the officer said, as she fired a third shot.

“You got me for real,” Smith told her. “Baby, I’m sorry,” the wounded man cried. “I’m sorry… I don’t want to die!”

The officer yelled for someone to call 911.

“Call the police. I just shot somebody,” The officer yelled. “You thought I was playing? I told you I’d shoot you!”

Smith suffered gunshot wounds to the abdomen and hand. He was transported to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead on Jan. 20.

The officer told responding cops that the shooting happened when Smith reached for her gun. But Smith was apparently surprised that she was strapped.

The video and other material were released Thursday by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability.

Smith’s family filed a $10 million lawsuit against the city and the officer Feb. 3, citing “excessive and violent physical force.”

What a display of ignorance and aggression. Shameful police officer to mock and taunt a man she shot multiple times. No dignity no integrity just ghetto jive talk that will no doubt infuriate the black community and further fuel the narrative from educated public that these low rent public servants are undertrained and wired wrong for such a critically important role for all citizens. Same nonsensical chatter from the disbanded scorpion squad. Couldn’t understand their version of English so how is it anyone could abide by commands. Scary world indeed if this is the caliber of law and order.

Feel sad that the guy died. Loved how he talked to her with his “sorry baby” and everything. i think the woman was on drugs

She was in the right. If he would have gotten control of her who knows what he would have done. He even commented before she pulled the gun “you gotta kill me then!”. He was a career criminal and she did justice right.
