Because they're in the middle of a long-term guerrilla war and she was accused of collaborating with their enemy. Their opposition in this conflict has done things as bad or worse to Chechen 'prisoners.' I'm certainly not condoning this horrible shit, by any means. I don't even really give a damn about the conflict, as it has no real bearing in my life or on my existence. That said, when you're fighting in a guerrilla war, whatever your 'cause' may be, collaborators have to be dealt with harshly. Punishments for spying and collaborating have always been extreme, because they must set an example in order to discourage future collaboration. Most extremist groups are undermanned, underfunded, and have little public sympathy. One informer or collaborator can do extreme damage t their tenuous infrastructure, so the threat has to be dealt with and discouraged for the future. Again, I'm not condoning their methods. Only attempting to answer your question as to motive. |
