A father-son duo was killed, and three others were injured when two bags of country fireworks they were carrying in their motorcycle exploded accidentally near the Puducherry-Tamil Nadu border on Thursday.

Police said K K, 37, from Ariyankuppam known for its high decibel and cheap country fireworks in Puducherry was proceeding to his in-law's house with his son K P, carrying two bags of country fireworks, which he bought from the locality.

The fireworks in one of the bags accidentally exploded killing the father-son duo on the spot. The explosion was so intense that their bodies were torn into several pieces and were scattered a few metres away from the accident site.

Three motorists sustained severe burn injuries and were rushed to Hospital.

Police suspect that the fireworks might have exploded due to friction and excessive heat from the motorcycle.

Are you sure this was fireworks? As their bike goes past the camera, it doesn't appear to show any fireworks of significant quantity, and this blast was insane. It would take many sticks of actual dynamite to produce an explosion like that.

Maybe "country fireworks" = sticks of dynamite? I agree with what you're saying.. we don't see any fancy pyrotechnics, just a huge ass boom. TNT used to be commonly used in the U.S. for clearing stumps. Maybe it's still common over there since they're pretty undeveloped and unregulated.
