Re: Fatal Attack of Las Cruces Police Department Officer Jonah Hernandez
I would have broke leather the minute he began walking toward me. I was a Police Officer for 32 years for an agency in Orange County CA. Let me tell you, I’ve had a couple close calls with knife attacks. And I made sure those fuckers stayed down. While I feel sorry for this officer, his officer safety discipline was poor. This would be a great training video for officers. I always laugh at movies that show someone attacking an officer with a knife. And how the officer kicks serious ass. If only officers had the true training and expertise in hand to hand knife combat training this officer would have lived. This was a hard video to watch. My best to all of you out there.

As a honorably discharged U.S. Marine, this brings back memories. My sincerest condolences to the police officer's family. |

Easy to say after the fact of course, but it sure seemed obvious the way he stood and concealed his hands he was about to fight, if the officer would have approached slower gun drawn, it would have been different.

Re: Fatal Attack of Las Cruces Police Department Officer Jonah Hernandez
The officer did nothing wrong here, and the man who shot did nothing wrong. But it took 2 FUCKING WEEKS for them to announce they wouldn't press charges on the man who shot the piece of shit. This is a blatant show of why it isn't worth helping police. They were digging around for 2 WEEKS for something to charge him with before deciding the optics of that would be awful. Much like the officer killed by that piece of shit on the side of the highway by gunshot in the same state (the feds are responsible for that one, by the way, since they never informed Jarrott that he was told to pull over a known extremely violent character), it's not worth attempting to help because these liberal DAs want you to have no defense whatsoever, and the police are not on your side even if you make an honest to God attempt to save one of their fellow officers because they March to the drum of the politicians that tell them what to do. I wish it wasn't the case, but I know my CCW is for me, my friends, and my family. Even if I could save someone else, why would I put myself in a situation where I could face real prison or the process being the punishment when there's no penalty for simply not being a part of the action. And to any "LEO's" who want to argue, when is the last time you stood up to a superior... he'll, even an equal coworker, to defend the rights of an otherwise upstanding citizen? I'll wait, take your time. Edit: to be clear, this attack is sad and the role of dead/alive during the attack should have been reversed. I'm just saying that I'm not sticking my neck out like this other civilian individual did. No one knows I was there, no one can try to charge me for trying to play hero. I'd love to be able to help others, but I'm not defending people who'd make me defenseless in a heartbeat. |

THAT'S what complacency gets you. That officer never stood a chance. In the academy they're taught (just like we're taught in concealed carry class), that a motivated person can close in on you and stab you before you have time to really react. Just as they did with the old Mark Coates video, they need to use this as a teaching tool. |
