Fairground Attraction Employee Fatally Hit in the Head
UK. A fairground worker died after suffering head injuries, an inquest has heard. Corrie L. S., 28, from Sunderland was working at the Spanish City summer funfair in Whitley Bay on 23 August when he was fatally injured. The event, operated by the Turner's Funfairs company, was due to run throughout the Bank Holiday weekend but was closed following Mr Stavers death and the Health and Safety Executive informed. At a brief hearing in Newcastle, assistant coroner Paul Dunn adjourned the inquest to a future date, pending further investigation. The day after he died, Mr Stavers' family issued a tribute to him in which they said: "Our lives will never be the same without him, but his memory will live on in our hearts forever. |

He was a fairground worker. He ended up on the ground at the fair. It's part of the job.

Re: Fairground Attraction Employee Fatally Hit in the Head
Unless he was a maintenance worker, he had to know the ride would swing down in that space. Just before he stepped up onto the platform, he looked up to make sure nothing was coming from above. If he was the ride operator, my guess is either 1. the ride had locked up due to a malfunction, then let loose, or 2. he shut it off but he did not lock it out or tag it out, and another helpful operator restarted it. Scenario 1 is more likely. |
