Re: Face Twitches After Decapitation
That is something I've been interested in since I was young, how long does the head live/is there consciousness after beheading? I read about a doctor who eventually came to be executed by guillotine during the French Revolution. He decided to use the opportunity as an experiment. He told his assistant that he would blink for as long as he was able after his head left his body. It was recorded by his assistant that his head "lived" for 11 seconds post beheading. Now whether this historical account is correct or not, it is believed that there is consciousness after beheading for some undetermined amount of time. |

Re: Face Twitches After Decapitation
It could have been the way his head was cut by the sword. If it's not a clean cut, the brain stem can still be attached to the spinal cord and if that is the case, it's plausible there may still be consciousness until the inevitable loss of blood shuts down the last remaining electrical signals in the brain stem. Like you, we can only hypothesize as to whether or not emotions exist in the dying victim. I would assume such trauma would cause the body to act accordingly after millions of years of evolution perfecting (hopefully) the dying process in human beings. |
