HOUSTON - Two people were found shot to death in an attempted armed robbery in the parking lot of an ice cream parlor.

The individuals were found in the parking lot of La Real Michoacana, located at 200 Aldine Bender road in north Houston.

The male victim has been identified as 26 year old Erasmo Alaniz. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the suspect, who also died at the scene, it pending notification of family members.

Officers found the two men around 5 p.m. Sunday. Alaniz was with his wife and 2-year-old daughter in their car outside of the shop when the suspect approached the vehicle.

The suspect apparently climbed into the backseat of the car and tried to rob the family. "He got back in behind the wife. Pointed the gun at her and said give me all you have." said Detective Christopher Elder with HPD.

A struggle ensued and gunfire was exchanged inside the vehicle. "The child was inside the car seat while the gunfire was happening," said Elder. The child and her mother were not reported to be injured, according to police.

Alaniz died in the driver's seat while the suspect was able to get out of the vehicle but collapsed and died halfway across the parking lot.

People who live in the area gathered together when they saw the crime scene. "A lot of this stuff has been happening pretty regular. But it's unfortunate, you work hard for your entire life and people try and come and take your things." said Nelson LaFleur, an area resident.

Detectives took several witnesses downtown for questioning Sunday evening and also plan to review surveillance footage from the businesses surrounding the parking lot.

Investigators are working to determine if the incident was random or if the suspect knew the victim and his family.

The guy called Chris is a friend of the victim, who was fatally shot inside the car, decided to face kick the killer that collapsed halfway the parking lot. Don't know if the killer was already dead or not.

That really sucks for the family. Not so much for the perp. I can't say I would have done it any differently though. I, just like many here, would give up my life for my family. However, anything I am willing to die for, I am willing to kill for.
